iNaturalist is a powerful online platform and mobile app that connects people who share an interest in biodiversity. It serves as a social network for scientists, naturalists, and enthusiasts, enabling users to identify and learn about the plants and animals around them while contributing to global conservation efforts. By simply recording and sharing your observations, you not only enhance your understanding of nature but also generate valuable, research-quality data that scientists can use to better study and protect ecosystems.
ALFAwetlands Joins iNaturalist
We are excited to announce the creation of the ALFAwetlands project on the iNaturalist platform. This project focuses on gathering biodiversity information from Living Labs, the designated areas where research and conservation efforts are actively conducted.
The ALFAwetlands project showcases:
- Leaderboards highlighting the most active contributors and the number of observations recorded
- Species insights showing the most commonly observed plants and animals in each Living Lab
- Observation trends, including how many species and records have been collected for specific areas.
Get Involved!
We invite you to explore the Living Lab locations that you are familiar with or plan to visit. By contributing with new observations, you can help to fill knowledge gaps in these areas. Whether you are identifying plants, birds, insects, or any other organisms, your efforts will directly support biodiversity research. Additionally, you can engage with the iNaturalist community to help identify species recorded by others, or to correct misidentifications where necessary.
Why Participate?
The ALFAwetlands project benefits from the collective power of iNaturalist users. Your contributions help us:
- Build a detailed and comprehensive inventory of species in Living Labs
- Understand which species are most common and how biodiversity changes over time
- Encourage community participation in nature observation and citizen science.
The data you collect and share, including species names, locations, and observation times, is freely accessible to everyone. It can be downloaded and used for scientific research, conservation planning, and educational purposes.
City Nature Challenge -2025
Furthermore, in 2024 ALFAwetlands joint City Nature Challenge through iNaturalist platform. In 2025 project Living Labs will again participate in the global activity. The activity will take place between 25.04-28.04.25.
Led by the California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, the City Nature Challenge brings together communities, organisations, and researchers to celebrate biodiversity and promote conservation.
From ALFAwetlands Living Labs we already have more than 105 thousands observations on iNaturalist, which will be increased in 2025!
