Session 3 Wetlands in Action Webinar Series

The Horizon Europe Sister Projects ALFAwetlandsRESTORE4CsREWET, and WET HORIZONS in collaboration with the Europe Chapter of the Society of Wetland Scientists successfully conducted Session 3 Wetlands in Action Webinar Series.

On January 13th, 11:00–12:00 CET, leading researchers from EU-funded projects ALFAwetlands, REWET, and WET HORIZONS focused on Data-Driven Wetland Monitoring: GHG Hotspot and Rewetting Impact Assessment.

Our experts and presentations are:

  • GHG emission hotspot mapping for EU+, Alexandra Barthelmes (ALFAwetlands & WET HORIZONS)
  • Remotely monitoring and assessing the impact of rewetting and wetland restoration – Example of the VerifAId Transparency Platform, Jonas Franke & Werner Wiedermann (REWET)

Dr. Alexandra Barthelmes is a Landscape Ecologist and Geodata Expert with the Michael Succow Foundation’s Peatland & Climate working group and the Greifswald Moor Centre, where she coordinates the Global Peatland Database and contributes to international peatland mapping and greenhouse gas emission assessments.

Jonas Franke (PhD) is a geographer and his expertise lies in Earth Observation and the development of innovative monitoring approaches in a wide range of applications such as wetland monitoring, renewable energy production, sustainable agriculture and forestry or fire management. His focus is thereby to implement these methods into operational practices, in order to establish Earth Observation-based techniques that have an impact on working procedures but also on environmental policies.

Werner Wiedemann is a specialist in environmental remote sensing at Remote Sensing Solutions GmbH in Munich. His work focuses on the monitoring and analysis of forests and wetlands, where he applies advanced geospatial methods to support sustainable ecosystem management.

Webinar is hosted by the European Wilderness Society, ALFAwetlands partner, and moderated by Corinna Barnstedt, WET HORIZONS partner, representing ESCI.

Recording of the session 2 “From Perception to Action: Engaging Citizens in Wetland Restoration and Conservation” is available: here.
