Rewetted drained peatland forest

Rewetted drained peatland forest

Challenges: Low fertile peatland rewetted. The impact of hydrological regime restoration on GHGE and Sphagnum moss growth will be assessed.

Solutions: Biota in wet soils, particularly soil microbes and rooted plants, regulate GHGE and removal. By controlling the WL, GHGE can be affected: high WL decreases CO2 emissions but increases CH4 and N2O; low WL increases CO2 emissions.

Outcomes: Rewetting will reduce GHGE and increase biodiversity.
