Wetlands experts at SERE conference
Members of ALFAwetlands, RESTORE4Cs, REWET and WET HORIZONS gathered to attend and jointly presented at the 14th European Conference on Ecological Restoration (SERE 2024) in Tartu, Estonia. Their activities at the conference highlight the importance of collaboration in restoring and preserving Europe's wetlands.
''As a coordinator of the ALFAwetlands project, I feel privileged to join the SERE 2024 conference and have a possibility to co-chair the joint session for four sister projects. We've had some incredibly engaging presentations in our sessions, which took place on the first day of the conference following the opening and plenary session, which was about nature restoration law, presented by Florian Claeys (EC).
We also enjoyed Friday’s session, coordinated by ALFAwetlands and chaired by Tuula Larmola, project deputy coordinator, and me. I am grateful for the opportunity to provide an overview of the ALFAwetlands project and have thoroughly enjoyed listening to several presentations related to our project.
It has been especially rewarding to finally meet sister project coordinators in person after so many virtual meetings. I am confident that our collaboration will continue to strengthen and become even more productive in the future. It has been inspiring to see such strong interest in wetland restoration, alongside other restoration initiatives, biodiversity and climate change-related topics.
At the ALFAwetlands, we are truly at the forefront of this essential work and should take pride in what we are striving to achieve through our project.'' Liisa Ukonmaanaho from the Natural Resources Institute Finland (LUKE) and the project coordinator of ALFAwetlands.
